Speakers at the 20th Biennial Session

Reverend Kenneth S. Robinson

The Reverend Kenneth S. Robinson, M.D., M.Div., is a native of Nashville.  Since 1991, he has served as Pastor and Chief Executive at St. Andrew African Methodist Episcopal Church.  Dr. Robinson recently made history, completing his tenure as the state’s first African-American Commissioner of Health.  While continuing to pastor St. Andrew, he served for four years as Tennessee’s Chief Health Officer; promoting, protecting and improving of the health of all its citizens.
Dr. Robinson will be our Saturday morning worship speaker, from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Reverend Dr. Frank A. Thomas

The Reverend Dr. Frank A. Thomas is the Senior Pastor at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, in Memphis, Tennessee and the former Vice President of National Convocation.  Dr. Thomas is a strong believer in education and a teacher in the Master of Divinity, Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Preaching programs in several seminaries.  Dr. Thomas is the author of They Like to Never Quit Praisin’ God:  The Role of Celebration in Preaching.  He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Hope for Life International, Inc. of The African American Pulpit.
Dr. Thomas will speak at our Saturday evening worship service at 7:30 p.m.

Rev. Ayanna Johnson

Ayanna Johnson, pastor, social worker, community organizer and motivational speaker serves as First Vice Moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Rev. Johnson also serves as new church pastor-in-residence at Disciples Divinity House, working with University of Chicago ministry students.  Rev. Johnson is a pastor-planter of Family of Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Blue Island, Illinois, which began in 2005.  She is a fifth-generation Disciple, whose home church is Swope Parkway United Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
Rev. Johnson will speak Monday morning, from 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

Reverend Dr. Stacy Spencer

The Reverend Dr. Stacy L. Spencer is the Senior Pastor of New Direction Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee.  With the vision of empowering all people to know God through life-changing experiences from the inside out, Dr. Spencer strives to minister to the “unreached.”  In other words, those people who have either been overlooked by, who’ve had little or no experience with or those who are disillusioned by traditional churches.  His God-given vision, considered a radical move by many, has proven successful in reaching a core audience of “Generation X-ers”, with the median age of the congregation ranging in the mid-30s or younger.
Dr. Spencer will speak Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Convocation Banquet, with his choir, New Direction, providing the special music.
