2008 General Minister and President Pastor's Conference
OGMP Announces Pastor's Conference Scholarships
Sharon E. Watkins, General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada is calling together all active Disciples clergy, September 8-10, 2008 in Chicago. The theme for the Pastors Conference is "Wholeness in a Fragmented World: Body, Mind, and Spirit."
To assist pastors in attending the conference, the Office of the General Minister and President has secured 85 scholarships for $250. The priorities for the scholarships are new church pastors and pastors of congregations in a transformation process with their regional transformation team, Disciples Home Missions (DHM) transformation team, or the Church Extension (CE) New Beginnings project.
Scholarship requests should be submitted by May 1, 2008 and are awarded on a first come, first served basis. Transformation requests should indicate whether the congregation is working with their region, DHM, or CE.
The inclusive registration fee for the Pastor's Conference is $575 for single occupancy. The registration fee includes the conference registration, two nights at the hotel, breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday, and lunch Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The inclusive registration fee if you are sharing a room is $500. The early bird registration fee has been extended to May 15, 2008.
The conference will feature noted preachers Dr. Floyd Flake and Bishop Will Willimon. Sharon Watkins will open the conference with highlights from the ministry plan and the state of the church. Additionally, participants can attend workshops or panel discussions on topics such as Worship Planning and Preparation, Stewardship, Community Involvement, Ministering to the Five Generations of the Church, and others.
