Disciples congregations across the United States are once again participating in CROP Hunger Walks to help end hunger. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Omaha, Neb., recently was the site where a CROP walk started and ended. Last year’s CROP walk in Omaha which included Disciples raised $34,301. Up to 25 percent of the money raised through donations in a typical walk supports hunger-fighting efforts in that local community.
Each year, approximately 2 million CROP Hunger walkers, volunteers, and sponsors raise millions of dollars to help end hunger and poverty around the world and in their own communities. CROP Hunger Walks raised more than $15 million to assist hungry people around the world in 2009, and provided more than $4 million to some 3,000 soup kitchens and food pantries across the U.S. To find out how to get involved or for more information, visit: www.churchworldservice.org/site/TR/CropWalks/general?fr_id=11349&pg=entry
