It will be ‘Pentecost Sunday’ among Disciples on May 31 when leaders of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will worship with leaders of the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, International in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The special fellowship service will take place at the St. Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Goldsboro, N.C.
The worship service also will celebrate the election of general bishop of the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ International, which is comprised of eight districts covering large portions of the southeastern United States as well as the Republic of Panama and West Africa. Alton A. Smith is the candidate for that position. Disciples of Christ International also is known informally as the ‘Assembly’ churches.
"This pivotal moment is fused with the possibility of reconciliation and new direction for both the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)," said North Carolina Regional Minister John M. Richardson.
General Minister and President Sharon Watkins will preach for the evening service. The May 31 worship will cap off a weekend of activities, that includes preaching by Rick Lowery, Interim Dean at Lexington Theological Seminary, on Sunday morning.
