Disciples churches encouraged to observe Earth Day Sunday

Disciples congregations are being encouraged to participate in Earth Day Sunday. Earth Day is on Good Friday this year, April 22, but Earth Day Sunday can be celebrated by churches on any given Sunday. Organizers of the Earth Day observances say few people understand the impacts that climate change will have on core church ministries, such as refugee resettlement, feeding the hungry, and disaster relief.

According the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Programs, "Today, we remain mindful of the importance of community. With Jesus’ assurance that, ‘Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them’" (Matthew 18:20).
