Disciples sing with renowned composer to benefit homeless

Renowned pianist and composer Joseph Martin recently conducted a benefit concert with Bartlesville (Okla.) High School choirs and a 120-voice adult choir from more than 18 churches and vocal groups. The vocalists included singers from three Disciples congregations: First Christian Church and Disciples Christian Church in Bartlesville and Harvard Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa, Okla. The concert took place Nov. 21 at Bartlesville High School.

The gathering raised approximately $10,000 for Project Concern, an organization in Bartlesville that provides assistance to homeless and needy people in the community. Organizers of the concert also collected canned goods for the charity. Martin has written and published more than 1,000 compositions for church choirs and piano. In addition, he has performed solo piano recitals and has been the featured artist with symphony orchestras in the United States and Mexico.
