Georgia church brings cheer to community ministry

Santa Claus is coming to town on Dec. 8, 2012 for the children served by Norcross Cooperative Ministry (NCM), thanks to Peachtree Corners Christian Church, Norcross, Ga.

Santa is the highlight of the annual Christmas party hosted by the church at NCM for about 150 children and their parents. Along with a chance to visit with Santa, each child can pose with Santa Claus for a photo that is printed on site and given to parents to take home.

“The photo with Santa is such a gift for these families,” explains the organizer of this year’s party, Angie Welch.  “It costs a minimum of $20 to have a photo made with Santa at the mall, and that’s just not a financial option for these children.”

Partygoers enjoy homemade cookies and holiday refreshments, crafts, games, and a stocking full of treats for each child.

Although Peachtree Corners Christian Church is a smaller church, averaging about 50 in worship each Sunday, the annual Christmas party is just one example of its mighty mission in the community, explained Rev. Kathy McDowell, pastor of the church.

“Any church can be the hands and feet of Christ through events like this Christmas party. Sure, it takes volunteers, and money.  But more than that, it’s an attitude of the heart, and we have that in abundance in our church.”
