The women at Living Water Christian Church in Parkville, Mo., will get a special treat this Mother’s Day. As one of 25 runner-ups in a fair trade chocolate competition, the church will receive 200 chocolate bars from Divine Chocolate, Ltd., a fair trade chocolate company. The congregation entered the contest by submitting a written proposal on how it would host a World Fair Trade Day event. The church’s pitch envisioned a Mother’s Day celebration in which all women in attendance would be honored by gifting them a fair trade chocolate bar.
The candy will be given out to women who attend this Sunday, on Mother’s Day, May 9. "We want people to be aware that the purchases we make are an expression of our faith and can positively affect the lives of others," said Living Water pastor Laura Guy.
