Real Faith Christian Church in Clarksdale, MS, had fallen victim to a string of disasters during a building project. Several Disciple ministries banded together to help get Real Faith into a fully renovated building for Easter Sunday. Partnerships included many, many individuals and groups from across the life of Disciples marshaled by Disciples Volunteering, staff from Disciples Home Missions and Disciples Church Extension Fund and more. Volunteers came from many regions and some individuals in congregations contributed, such as the cabinet makers from Joplin, MO, who made shelving for the new food pantry in Mississippi.
Photos below include the final two weeks’ activities and Easter morning. Clockwise from upper left: Julie Richardson is a long term volunteer through Disciples Volunteering who was chief cook and bottle washer. Sheila Spencer, Director of Christian Education and Faith Formation; Assistant to the President of Disciples Home Missions, rolls on the paint. Jeff Engle, a volunteer from Ohio, was there while Disciples Home Missions staff was helping out. Pastor Zedric Clayton and others cut the ribbon to the congregation’s facility on Easter 2015. The first Sunday in the refurbished facility was packed. Kathy Watts, Miss Gert of Clarksdale, Brenda Tyler and Wilma Shuffit worked through the weeks leading up to Easter. Watts, Tyler and Shuffit are Disciples Home Mission staff members from Indianapolis.
