New Florida church plant serves second generation Hispanics

A new Disciples church plant in Orlando, Fla., has found its niche – the second- and third-generation Hispanic community. Sammy Robles, who graduated from Christian Theological Seminary, wanted to begin a new congregation to serve Hispanics who were bilingual or didn’t speak Spanish at all and who wanted to create a witness where they could be "themselves." With assistance from New Church Ministry, Robles and his wife, Hilda, launched Arise Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Aug. 2009.

Arise Christian is the first Disciples and the first Hispanic church in the Lake Nona/Moss Park area of Orlando. "It’s a place to embrace whoever you are from wherever you are, to feel whole and welcome," said Robles.
