Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City, one of the oldest continuing congregations among the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), will celebrate 200 years of its founding on Oct. 9-10. The theme is "200 years: Seeking Justice, Embracing Diversity, Inspiring Imagination."
Bicentennial activities include a bus tour on Saturday, Oct. 9, of the historic Manhattan locations of the congregation. Later in the day there will be tours of the church and organ music in the sanctuary. Signings of a new history book about Park Avenue Christian, written by John Wade Payne, a former pastor, and published by Polar Star Press, also will take place.
Pastor Alvin Jackson will preach on Sunday, Oct. 10, followed by specially commissioned music. For more information, go to: parkavenuechristian.com.
