A South Carolina Disciples church now has windows to heaven. Ten specially-designed stained glass windows amplify and warm the light flowing into the sanctuary at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Columbia, S.C. The glass, adorned with various shades of red, pink, gold and blue reflections, tell the story of Christ from His baptism by his cousin, John the Baptist, to His encounter with Mary at the empty tomb.
"We are really enjoying the beauty of the windows and the change they have brought to the sanctuary," said Jim Hockman, a member of the congregation and Disciples Home Missions board whose brother, Scot Hockman, designed the windows. Scot’s favorite pane is the one depicting Jesus calming the waters. "That is what my faith does to me," Scot said. "It calms the waters. In turbulent times, you have to pray, but you have to have faith, too." To read an article about the windows, see: www.thestate.com/local/story/792598.html.
