A Disciples congregation in Northern Virginia is doing its part to battle homelessness. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Falls Church, Va. feeds more than 250 people every week through its Safe Haven Day Shelter homeless ministry. The program serves breakfast and lunch in the church’s fellowship hall every Thursday, and also on Tuesdays during the winter months. The homeless ministry was started 10 years ago by the late Bill LaLiberte, an 83-year-old who had a passion to help the poor.
The program, which spends at least $750 a month for its operations, welcomes volunteers and donations. To learn more, visit: www.fccfc.org/index.cfm?page=history-ministry
