Disciples were among hundreds of thousands of people of faith who participated in a health care call-in and live audio webcast about health care reform. The Aug. 19 call included comments from President Barack Obama as well as leaders from numerous religious denominations and organizations.
An estimated 144,000 listened to the webcast that helped launch the "40 Days For Health Reform" campaign, which can be viewed at faithforhealth.org The campaign’s goal is to get more people of faith to urge Congress to complete the work on health care reform. It is now estimated that since last Wednesday’s airing, the broadcast has been played a total of 300,000 times.
General Minister and President Sharon Watkins participated on the call. Cynthia Hale, senior pastor of Ray of Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Decatur, Ga., also was among faith leaders on the call and read scripture.
