Disciples Public Presence Conference
September 16, 2018 - September 17, 2018$125
Following the fatal shooting of young adult Michael Brown on August 9, 2014 a new conversation emerged to engage the infrastructure for justice work within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). After sustained conversations about justice infrastructure with ministry partners across the life of the church including the Office of the General Minister and President, and groundswell of activism around the Poor Peoples Campaign, a next step conference is being organized to make progress to strengthen the infrastructure for justice work within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The conference aims to bring together grass roots activists found in Disciples Public Presence, Disciples justice networks, General Ministries, Regions, and local churches for the sake of showing up together as Disciples in justice work.
We have a groundswell of Disciples working on a multitude of justice issues and we want to support and continue the momentum of the Public Presence we have as Disciples. This conference is open to all who are interested in justice work.
Reasons for gathering:
1. Begin to form Disciples justice affinity groups to help continue and strengthen the connections we have made. We want to hear what you need, what justice issues you are working on and how we can better support each other.
2. Create a resource map to provide more ongoing contact with groups of Disciples activists and organizers.
3. Create space, virtual and in-person, for sharing innovative ideas to help leaders and ministries learn from one another and to help Disciples develop responses, strategies and infrastructure to better mobilize.
