The General Assembly School-Age Program Committee has developed a lively, enriching, one-of-a-kind curriculum for your children, “C.S.I.-Nashville: Christian Story Investigators.” This wonderful program has been written specifically for the 2011 General Assembly by a fantastic team of volunteers with countless years of educational and faith-based experience, including Jay Hartley, Senior Minister at Eastwood Christian Church in Nashville, and Betty White, who is co-chair of the School-Age Program Committee and who is also an assistant middle school principal with many years of educational experience.
Our program will not only give your children exposure to a unique, theologically-sound curriculum, but will also allow them to visit some of Nashville’s most famous and kid-friendly sights, including the Country Music Hall of Fame, The Nashville Symphony, The Parthenon and Centennial Park, as well as mission opportunities with Second Harvest Food Bank and Mobile Loaves and Fishes Nashville. A tentative daily schedule of events for the school-age program can be found in your program docket, which you should have recently received from Indianapolis.
Of course, your child’s safety and well-being is our top priority during General Assembly. With that in mind, our committee is securing a team of wonderful volunteers to work with your children, both during their morning curriculum, and also during afternoon field and mission trips. Each volunteer who works with your child will be required to undergo a thorough background check with The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) preferred Background Check vendor, Praesidium. Additionally, to ensure that each child is safely released only to an authorized parent or adult during the General Assembly, we will be providing matching security bracelets to each child and their parent or guardian at the beginning of the event. Finally, as safety on field trips is of utmost importance, we will provide each child in the school-age program with a brightly colored “C.S.I.-Nashville” t-shirt, to be worn on field trips so that our group of General Assembly children will be easily identifiable to our staff when we are out and about Nashville.
You may access a variety of continually updated information about “C.S.I.-Nashville” including flyers, forms, and an informational “virtual tour” by visiting the General Assembly website, www.disciples.org/ga, and clicking on the “school-age children’s program info” link under Learning Opportunities at the top of the page. Of particular importance is the link to our “School-age child information form.” This form allows you to provide us important health and other information about your child and it must be completed for every child who will be attending the school-age children’s program. You may complete and submit the form online. If you have not already done so, please visit the General Assembly website now and complete the information form for your child.
