Disciples attending this summer’s General Assembly will have an opportunity to contribute to a great cause – the cause of life. There will be a blood drive during the 2009 Indianapolis General Assembly, which runs July 29 – Aug. 2 at the Indiana Convention Center. Blood donors also will get their cholesterol checked and blood type identified.
The General Assembly blood drive will benefit the Indiana Blood Center, which must recruit 550 new donors every day to keep up with demand. Someone is in need of an infusion of blood every two seconds. Type "O" blood is universal and can be given to almost any patient in an emergency. This amount can save up to 1,650 lives. Blood donors must be 17 years old and have photo ID. Donors who are 16 can give blood with parental permission.
