Volunteers, supporters and friends of Disciples Home Missions gathered for dinner Saturday evening, August 1, at the General Assembly of the Christian Church.
DHM is the singular organization of opportunity for Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) members to translate the vision and hope of the Church into ministry.
Ronald J. Degges, DHM president, recognized special guests, DHM board and staff, and longtime volunteers, Barbara and Mike Lee. Don Shelton, regional minister, was honored with the organization’s Distinguished Leadership Award.
Carl Zerweck, director of Disciples Volunteering, announced an emergency situation in Alaska concerning the flooding of the Yukon River and the destruction of native villages there. Volunteers were sought to make the trek to Alaska later this month for a three-week mission.
Laura and Rick Hall, well-known entertainers and members of Church of the Valley in Van Nuys, Calif. also performed an original musical production.
