NASHVILLE, TN – Ever wish you could tell your friends you played live to a crowd of thousands at a gig in Nashville, TN? Well, bring your guitar to the 2011 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) – gathering here, Sat., July 9 to Wed., July 13 – and you can mark that item off the bucket list.
You can event order the t-shirt to prove you did it!
General Assembly Music Director Bill Thomas and Nashville musician, Stephen McMillan, who serves as chair of the local arrangements music committee, will coordinate an all-Assembly guitar “ensemble,” which will play during the 7 p.m. Sat., July 9, Opening Worship of the Assembly.
Guitar players (and other stringed instruments are encouraged, as well) from across the United States and Canada are invited to download simple sheet music, order a t-shirt to wear on stage, and show up for a brief rehearsal on Saturday afternoon. Go to www.disciples.org/ga to register for General Assembly or visit http://bit.ly/f5UPjH for more information.
T-shirt-wearing guitar players will be invited to the stage to send out worshipers on Opening Night with what General Assembly Program Director Patricia Case says may be the “biggest guitar ensemble ever gathered – even in Nashville!”
Planners hope at least 100 people will sign up to play in a town where superstars have thrilled thousands with musical performances second to none.
“We have a lot of musical talent in the Disciples of Christ,” said Thomas. “Where better than Music City, USA, to put them on stage to share it in praise of God?”
