(Nashville, TN. – 7/11/2011) – A diverse trio of Disciples expressed gratitude and deep conviction to the love of Jesus Christ as the 2011 General Assembly approved by acclamation the nominations of Regina Morton of Somerville, TN, (member at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis), as Moderator; Dr. Susan Diamond, senior minister of First Christian Church of Montgomery, AL as First Vice-Moderator and Rick Ikeda of Salem, OR, (member at First Christian Church, Salem, OR) as Second Vice-Moderator.  The team will serve a two-year term.

Morton said she was honored to be asked to serve in the position and sees the role of the moderators as strong advocates for the General Minister, “prayer warriors” for the denomination and confidential counsel for Dr. Watkins as she seeks to lead the denomination toward wholeness in a fragmented world.

“I believe we can be an objective source of information about the direction of the church,” said Morton. “I hope that through us, Sharon can get a whole picture of the views of the denomination and that we can strongly support and facilitate her ministry.”
