As the United States Federal government response to COVID-19 unfolds, congregations and ministries are asking questions about resources that may be available to 501c3s and employment law matters that should be considered. The financial ministries – Christian Church Foundation, Disciples Church Extension Fund, and Pension Fund of the Christian Church – are partnering to produce a statement that will address questions with information provided by their legal counsel and Church Alliance. Pension Fund is a member of Church Alliance, which is a lobbying organization supporting church benefit boards and church workers. The statement will be available in the coming week.
General Minister and President Terri Hord Owens has convened a task force of representatives from a variety of general ministries and a representative from the regional ministers to coordinate responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The group recently met for the second time.
Week of Compassion and National Benevolent Association are working on coordinating resources for recovery as well. Higher Education and Leadership Ministries have been in contact with students in need to offer help as well as support for higher education’s chaplains as they serve.
Disciples Home Missions is continuing to produce resources for churches who have suspended in person activities, as well as support for children, youth, and families. Global Ministries is also tracking the ministry of their partners and mission co-workers around the world.
