After more than 16 years in publication, the "Chalice Hymnal" faces what may be its final printing in its current format. Declining demand for the print edition of the hymnal, which has been used for congregational worship and individual devotion within and outside of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), will likely force a final printing later this year. Purchases of the Chalice Hymnal have declined from 150,000 in 1995, its first year of publication.
"This decision pertains only to the current print editions of Chalice Hymnal," stated Cyrus N. "Russ" White, president and publisher of the Christian Board of Publication and Chalice Press. "Other alternatives include digital and other formats. We continue to explore these in light of the preferences and needs of congregations and individuals we serve." Final orders of the pew edition of the hymnal will be accepted through Sept. 15. Read more from Chalice Press president Russ White.
