ST. LOUIS, Missouri — The National Benevolent Association (NBA) has announced today, the addition of two new staff who will play a vital role in the organization’s mission and strategic direction, Vice President of Program Services and Vice President of Church Ministries.
“As we have listened to members across the life of the Christian Church, as well as direct care providers affiliated with the denomination, we have begun to deliberately align ourselves with our new mission of Creating Communities of Compassion and Care,” said President, Mark D. Anderson. “It is imperative that we become more efficient and effective so that our Church may live more fully into ministries of mercy and care. We believe these two new positions will assist us to fulfill our commitment of serving those in need.”
The Vice President of Program Services will report to the President and be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of program services related to health and social service ministries associated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The position will provide support and linkage to affiliated and non-affiliated service providers recognized by the denomination.
The Vice President of Church Ministries will also report to the President and will be responsible for developing collaborative relationships with congregations and Regions within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as it pertains to health and social service ministries. In addition, this position will supervise the Chaplaincy Care Program and an internship program with direct care providers.
As well as adding the new positions, it became clear that certain administrative positions within the NBA corporate structure were no longer essential to the new mission of NBA. The positions that have been eliminated are Chief Operating Officer, Director of Human Resources, Vice President of Development/Comptroller for the National Benevolent Foundation, and Director of Marketing/Communications/Corporate Secretary/Chaplaincy Supervisor. “This decision was not taken lightly and everyone impacted by this transition deserves our thanks and respect for their contributions to the ministry of NBA. We will aid these individuals in their transition to new opportunities,” Anderson stated.
Anderson affirmed, “While these changes are never easy, I know NBA will be better able to fulfill its mission to help those in need and ultimately be a stronger organization. All of us at NBA appreciate your prayers during this time of transition.”
The National Benevolent Association (NBA) is a general ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a mainline, Protestant denomination with over 3,700 congregations throughout the United States and Canada. The NBA traces its roots back to the 1880s when six women in a St. Louis-based prayer group gave birth to a local program designed to help the area’s widows and orphans. Currently NBA consists of five affiliated non-profits and five chaplaincy care programs across the country.
