Chapman University will observe its 150th anniversary during its Annual Founders Day celebration March 18-19. Lectures, worship services and tours are among the planned activities that will take place at Chapman University’s Orange, Calif., campus under the theme, "Renew." Lecture topics include "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism"; "Jesus for the Non-Religious"; "Eternal Life: A New Vision"; and "Chapman DNA: Disciples, Education and Abolition."
Scheduled to speak during the Founders Day celebration are John Shelby Spong, a theologian and spokesperson for progressive Christianity; essayist and novelist Anne Lamott; Alvin Jackson, pastor of Park Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in New York City and a Chapman alumnus; and President of Brite Divinity School Newell Williams.
