Jarvis Christian College To Sponsor Religious Emphasis Week; Install Cornell Thomas As 11th President

Cornell ThomasJarvis Christian College will host Religious Emphasis Week 2009 Nov. 8-11. The theme of the week is “The Fruit of the Spirit.” The festivities will culminate with the inauguration of Cornell Thomas as Jarvis Christian College’s 11th president on Nov. 14. Other highlights of the week include a gospel fest, preaching, and a concert featuring urban gospel recording artist Yunek (Unique) of Houston, Texas. Inauguration activities will take place at the college Nov. 12-15.

Thomas succeeds Sebetha Jenkins, who retired in December after serving as president of the college for 18 years. Thomas formerly served as system vice president for institutional diversity at Oklahoma State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, a master’s degree in music education from Jackson State University, and a Ph.D. in educational administration from Texas A&M University, Commerce. Jarvis Christian College is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and located in Hawkins, Texas. For more, visit:
