The Board of Trustees of Phillips Theological Seminary has named Gary Peluso-Verdend as the new president of the seminary, effective July 1. Peluso-Verdend will succeed William Tabbernee, who has served as president of the Tulsa, Okla., institution for 18 years. Peluso-Verdend is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. PTS is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Peluso-Verdend earned his doctorate from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He is a scholar in the field of practical theology. He has taught at two seminaries and served in several positions at Phillips Theological Seminary, including as dean of the seminary from 1997 to 2000. "We’ll have to work creatively and diligently to position ourselves to continue to be effective in the future," Peluso-Verdend said. Read more about Peluso-Verdend.
