Two Northwest Christian University (NCU) faculty members won an international award from the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). Professors Anne Maggs and Tim Bergquist won the Instructional Innovation Award Competition at the recent DSI meeting in San Diego. Maggs and Bergquist won for their paper, "Use of an Online, Educational Novel in an Introductory Small-Business Management Class." The achievement earned them a cash award and special recognition.
The professors’ winning paper was based on a course that Maggs developed entitled "Bus 110: Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship." It utilized a storytelling approach – via a novel and a workbook – to teach business concepts and is based on the novel Bookstore for Bailey. A main character in the book decides whether or not it is more profitable to sell or keep a bookstore that she inherits.
