Transylvania University Board of Trustees Chairman William T. Young Jr. announced that longtime financial executive and scholar Owen Williams will be the next president of Transylvania University. Williams will succeed Charles L. Shearer in becoming the 25th president of the 230-year-old liberal arts college, when Shearer retires July 31. Transylvania is located in Lexington, Ky.
Williams, 58, worked as a financial executive on Wall Street for more than two decades. He earned an A.B. Degree in philosophy from Dartmouth College, an M.A. Degree in intellectual history from Cambridge University, a master’s of law degree from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. in history specializing in nineteenth-century American history, from Yale University.
