Rev. Herbert H. Lambert of Elmira, NY, went to sleep in the arms of our Lord on January 18, 2010. Rev. Lambert was a graduate of Bethany College, WV. AB Magna Cum Laude, 1950, Union Theological Seminary, NY, M. Div. 1953. He was ordained to the Ministry by Bethany Christian Church in 1950. From 1959 to 1971 he served churches in California, PA, WV and Rantoul Air Force, IL. From 1971 to 1989 he was Vice President, and Chief Editor of Christian Board of Publication, St. Louis, MO. From 1990 to 2000 he served 13 interims from Tupelo, MS to Oak Park, IL. He is the author of "Getting Inside The Bible" and more than thirty study courses for use in Protestant Churches. He served on the Uniform Series for seventeen years and chaired the Cycle Committee from 1992 to 1998. He served on the committee on publication and distribution for the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. Rev. Lambert was a member of EOC Council and other war on poverty programs. He founded and chaired the Rantoul Human Relations Council. He was very active in the Civil Rights Movement. Rev. Lambert was a Greek & Hebrew Scholar who worked on the Dead Sea Scrolls and was also a member of Mensa International. He was preceded in death by his four sisters, three brothers and his first wife, Rev. Esther Esaias in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Constance; two sons, Tim and Geoff Lambert; and one step daughter, Cynthia Burke of New Mexico; one granddaughter; one sister, Iva Winters of VA; and multiple nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his beloved cat, BeBe. A Celebration of Rev. Lambert’s Life and Memorial Service will be held at the Big Flats First Presbyterian Church, Main St., Big Flats, NY on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Price.
