Dr. William C. Howland, Jr., passed away March 6, 2012, in Austin, Texas. He was a former senior pastor of National City Christian Church (NCCC), deputy general minister and president of the Disciples as well as an acting president of Phillips Theological Seminary. His memorial service will be at University Christian Church in Austin on April 7 and an Inurnment Service at NCCC in Washington, D.C on May 20. Howland oversaw many changes during his tenure at NCCC, including the renovation of the sanctuary at National City and the building of the Beasley Building, the Undercroft, and the Columbairum. He was instrumental in beginning an inclusive, multiracial, and multicultural ministry, welcoming persons within the lesbian/gay/bisexual/trangendered community, and establishing a Hispanic ministry there in addition to serving local congregations in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Maryland, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia.
