A well-known Disciple whose positive spirit and warm manner encouraged countless friends and young people has died. Darla Su "Suzi" Cummins passed away on Jan 17 at the age of 75 in Swanton, Md. She was the wife of Duane Cummins, former president of the Division of Higher Education (now HELM) and president emeritus of Bethany College.
Suzi Cummins was a woman’s retreat lecturer, an author, book reviewer and church school educator. "Suzi had a wonderful personality," remembers Robyn Cole, a retired English professor at Bethany College. "Her motto was URLVD – short for ‘You are Loved.’ She was a very interesting, very fun person who enjoyed helping others."
"One of the first things one would notice about Suzi was her hospitality and interest in people," added John Imbler, Stephen J. England Associate Professor of the History of Christianity and Disciples Studies and Executive Vice-President at Phillips Theological Seminary. "She made the president’s house at Bethany College a home environment for many students." In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Cummins Scholarship Fund at Bethany College.
