The serious issue of bullying and suicide among young people has moved from the front page headlines of newspapers and blogs. But bullying remains a serious topic that continues to impact the lives of many youth and others who experience aggressive, negative actions. General Minister and President Sharon Watkins thinks it is important that Disciples remain aware of the effects of this ongoing social problem and offers a letter to the church that addresses bullying, a practice she describes as always wrong. Watkins calls on followers of Christ to speak against the issue. "Christians who call themselves disciples of Christ must speak ‘love in truth and action’ by standing up for all of God’s children – especially those who attract the attention of bullies, whether they are gay or immigrants or just unpopular," she says.
