A Congolese pastor and his wife from the Community of Disciples of Christ of Congo are cementing the special bonds of friendship they developed last year with several lay and clergy persons from the Indiana region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during a nearly 10-day visit by the Indiana delegation to their country.
Dozens of people from Disciples churches in Indiana waited three hours at the Indianapolis airport to greet Illumbe Ndjongo, principal supervising pastor (PSP) of the 10th Community of Disciples of Christ in the Congo (10-CDCC) and his wife, Mama Rosette, on July 2. In his country, Illumbe serves a very similar role to Richard Spleth, regional minister for Indiana. The couple is staying with Spleth and his wife, Diane, and is taking the opportunity to speak at churches throughout Indiana. They will culminate their visit to Indiana by participating in the 2009 General Assembly at the end of the month.
The visit of Illumbe and his wife is but one part of the mission partnership that the Indiana Region has developed with Disciples in the Congo. For more, see The Indiana Disciples News Blog at:
