A Disciples pastor in the Northwest Region has given a voice to the "voiceless." Michael Rice-Sauer, minister of Covenant Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Spokane, Wash., has formed a choir comprised of homeless and formerly homeless people. Rice-Sauer, who typically goes by the name "Redhawk," formed the choir a few years ago as a way to get people off of the street, if only for brief periods.
At a recent rehearsal of the "Voiceless," by which the choir is known, the members helped themselves to donated shoes, clothing and toys. Rice-Sauer led choir practice with "an acoustic guitar, a portable CD player and a camp counselor’s exaggerated mannerisms," according to the Spokane-based weekly "Pacific Northwest Inlander."
