Delays resulting from the introduction in February of new U.S. Homeland Security checks contributed to a significant drop in refugee admissions between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011. Through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, 56,424 people were resettled during the 2011 fiscal year, down from 74,654 the previous year. Over the same time period, Church World Service (CWS) saw its resettlement numbers drop from 7,055 to 5,318.
