The Proclamation Project of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) exists to equip and empower Disciples preachers to proclaim the good news. By providing preachers with new resources, collegial support, and opportunities for education, the project will help Disciples preach the good news in their congregations and beyond.
What is the Proclamation Project?
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has received a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help support and equip Disciples for the task of preaching the good news. The program, preliminarily called The Proclamation Project, will kick off with a virtual preaching workshop and a sermon series resource for preachers to use in preparation for next summer’s General Assembly. As the program takes shape, it will grow to include a resource library with new and curated preaching materials, support for preachers in bi-vocational settings, cohort groups, and learning opportunities for Disciples preachers. An initiative of the Office of the General Minister and President, this project will provide preachers with connection to other preachers, resources they can trust, and opportunities to grow in the craft of preaching. “I am thrilled that we will be able to offer this level of support to preachers in local congregations,” said Rev. Terri Hord Owens, General Minister and President. “As we continue to imagine new ways of being church, the Proclamation Project will help Disciples offer the authentic, Spirit-filled preaching the world needs.”
As the Proclamation Project takes shape, new resources will be developed to support Disciples preaching. Within Us, Among Us is a sermon series resource to help your congregation prepare for the General Assembly to be held July 29-August 1 in Louisville, Kentucky. This six-week series features scriptural reflection, interactive worship suggestions, connections to Disciples ministries, and other ideas to use in your ministry context, all based on the General Assembly theme: The Kindom of God, Within Us, Among Us. Three different resources were developed in Spanish, Korean, and English.
About the Survey
As we are exploring opportunities to better equip and empower Disciples preachers to proclaim the good news, we’d like to hear from you. We’ve designed a survey for Disciples preachers to provide feedback on the practice of preaching, in order to help us discern needs and shape appropriate supports. The survey is available in Korean, Spanish, and English. Your input is important to us. Will you please take 10-15 minutes to share your feedback on the practice of preaching?
