LOS FRESNOS, Texas–Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries launched a new Web site on Wednesday that contains several new and enhanced features that shows and describes the hands-on ministry in action at the Texas/Mexico border.
While the site’s address, www.swgsm.org, remains unchanged, the online home of the border ministry overseen by the Rev. Feliberto Pereira contains photo slideshows, a robust ministries area, updated mission opportunities and an online donation portal.
“We are blessed by all the churches and work groups who travel so far to be with us and serve as angels to minister to the people in need at the border,” said Pereira, the founder and executive director of Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, a member institution of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). “We hope our new Web site will provide needed information and inspiration to those who want to experience hands-on ministry to serve ‘the least of these’ our brothers and sisters at the border.”
Pereira said the Web site would not have been possible without the generous support of Bill Anderton, a member of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dallas and president of TeleWorship, which provides virtual worship technologies for churches, and The Kelley Group, a professional writing and communications consultancy based in Dallas.
Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries (SWGSM) was founded in 1985 in Los Fresnos, Texas, to provide assistance to people in need, especially refugees and asylum seekers from Central America, Cuba and other countries in political turmoil. SWGSM is now a member institution of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest Region.
The mission of Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries is to teach the love of Jesus Christ by building a renewed sense of wholeness and dignity and by standing with those who are broken, especially among refugees and those who are disenfranchised and displaced. The Good News of salvation is lived out by addressing spiritual and material needs, including emergency shelter and food, clothing, transportation, legal aid, advocacy and job referral through a cooperative effort with other agencies and religious organizations.
