The deadline for applications from Disciples general and regional ministries and higher education institutions for 2012 grants from the Oreon E. Scott Foundation is April 2, 2012.
The Scott Foundation, created in 1950 by St. Louis businessman and church leader Oreon E. Scott, has granted in excess of $4 million to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and its various entities and organizations. Mr. Scott died in 1956.
In 2011, the Scott Foundation provided $148,920 in grants to regions, general ministries and educational institutions related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Scott grants are designed to strengthen the church, including development of church leaders, ministerial support and church growth.
Grants typically are for a one-year time period and often are seed funds for new projects. Eligibility is limited to general ministries, regional ministries, undergraduate institutions of higher education related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the seven theological institutions that are full members of the Higher Education and Leadership Ministries Council on Theological Education. Disciples congregations may apply only in partnership with a general ministry, regional ministry or institution of higher education.
The Scott Foundation, at Mr. Scott’s direction, is headed by trustees who are chief executive of specific ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Current trustees are Dennis Landon, president of Higher Education and Leadership Ministries; James Hamlett, president of the Pension Fund; and Mark Anderson, president of the National Benevolent Association.
Trustees meet twice a year, reviewing grant applications and awarding grants annually in the spring meeting.
