Through the Division of Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries, we Disciples partner with churches and church leaders around the world. One of those partners is Bishop Munib A. Younan, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. He lives in Jerusalem and currently serves as President of the Lutheran World Federation.
Bishop Younan has written a word of hope for the season and an appeal to Christians to stay in the Holy Land. I post it here for all of us who are tempted to despair in the face of seemingly broken political systems. Notice in the end how he lifts up spirituality, community and prophetic proclamation – sounding for all the world like our Disciples vision – a growing church marked by deep spirituality, true community and a passion for justice – which I take to be a pretty good definition of the wholeness we seek.
Blessings in this season of Christ’s birth. May our hopes for God’s reign be fulfilled.
