Disciples Peace Fellowship, the oldest peace fellowship in the United States, will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Oct. 17 at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Indianapolis. As part of the worship service, peacemakers from three generations will relate stories about their passion for peace. A reception will follow the service.
The roots of the peace organization began on Oct. 18, 1935, when 75 people with a passion for nonviolence decided to covenant together to oppose war. Since then, thousands of Disciples have advocated for and educated about peace with justice through peace interns, resolutions, awards, rallies, letter writing, conscientious objection and peaceful living.
