ECHO, a service unit of Disciples Benevolent Services, hosted its annual back-to-school fair on Aug. 7 in St. Louis, Mo. About 1500 school backpacks that were filled with supplies were given away. A number of parents expressed gratitude for the help that came as their children were preparing for a new school year.
A group of volunteers comprised of St. Louis-area Disciples, Disciples Benevolent Services staff and their families, spent the day helping to create a fun atmosphere for everyone. A bounce house for younger children was provided by Memorial Boulevard Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
ECHO is now planning a winter coat and outer wear giveaway for children and youth this fall. ECHO, which began as an orphan’s home, has been serving the St. Louis area since 1889. For more, see:
