Destruction in the Central American nation of El Salvador from Tropical Storm Ida topped the list of recent emergency disaster relief responses from Week of Compassion. Brandon Gilvin, associate director of Week of Compassion, reports that the storm left significant damage in communities across El Salvador last month causing the government there to declare a state of emergency.
At least 130 Salvadorans died in the storm and many more are missing. WOC has responded with emergency funds to repair homes and provide food and water. Although there has been little in the news about the storm’s impact on El Salvador, Week of Compassion’s ministry partners have reported that several communities there have been heavily damaged by the disaster.
