The first gathering of the "Babel Table: from Tower to Table, in New Orleans on Dec. 16-19, 2010 underscored the value and vision of bringing together Disciples young adults in seeking to understand what it means to become a truly multicultural and inclusive church. Fifteen young adult Disciples, engaged in a hands-on mission experience by rebuilding a house in the Ninth Ward in post-Katrina New Orleans. The group met at the Westside Mission, where the agenda also included anti-racism training, reflections on the context of mission, and time to share personal experiences of exclusion.
The next "Babel Table" event will take place in March at the Romero Centre in San Diego, Calif., focusing on the issues of "the border" and immigration and in White Swan, Wash. at the Yakama Christian Mission, focusing on Native American concerns in June.
