A minister at a Georgia Disciples congregation has been named to a new leadership program for young pastors. Taft Quincey Heatley, executive pastor at Ray of Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Decatur, Ga., is a member of the 2009 Project Rising Sun leadership academy, a two-year program to develop leaders among Hispanic, African American and other young pastors of color.
Project Rising Sun was launched by Stephen Lewis, national director of the Fund for Theological Education’s Calling Congregations. Heatley and other participants in the project will attend retreats focusing on personal and professional, congregational and community development. The group held its first meeting on April 26 in Morgantown, N.C. Both Calling Congregations and Project Rising Sun are funded by the Lilly Endowment.
