It’s not that you don’t know how to pray. It’s that sometimes in crisis your brain freezes up.
It was in that spirit 99 Prayers Your Church Needs (But Doesn’t Know it Yet), written by the Bethany Fellows, was born. 99 Prayers provides the starting point that will help lead you to the prayer your congregation or pastor needs.
“When we came up with the idea of crafting prayers rooted in the most surprising moments in ministry, we immediately knew the best way to achieve that was to have a group of writers,” says Chalice Press publisher Brad Lyons, “and the first group we thought of was the Bethany Fellows.”
Founded in 1999, the Bethany Fellows serves congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by helping newly ordained, young pastors transition from seminary to sustained congregational ministry with a strong and healthy pastoral identity. In 2004 they expanded their ministry to include an ecumenical group.
Twenty years into its ministry, Bethany Fellows has expanded its support of congregations and congregational leaders by partnering with Chalice Press to create resources such as 99 Prayers Your Church Needs (But Doesn’t Know It), Tactful Advice for Calling Your Next Pastor by Gary Straub, and Advent and Lenten devotionals. Bethany Fellows has also formed a strong support of congregations through a new partnership with the Pension Fund’s Excellence in Ministry program.
