The February 2021 30th Anniversary Special Edition of The Oldtimers’ Grapevine (OTG) newsletter celebrates a milestone birthday for this ministry.
The OTG is an independent newsletter bringing “good news to the over 60” in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Rev. Dr. William K. Fox, Sr., founding publisher/editor described the newsletter’s purpose: The mission is to assure that happenings are humbly recorded in the hope that the light of Christ which they reflect will shine across the path of those who follow.”
In addition to celebrating a milestone anniversary, the Special Edition announces the first major fund drive for the Grapevine. The goal is to “grow and modernize the ministry” by growing the permanent endowment fund, held with the Christian Church Foundation. A successful fund drive will enable the ministry to develop a website, update technology, and provide modest stipends for staff. Donations can be made by mail at P.O. Box 441695 Indianapolis, IN 46244 or on-line through www.givelify.com.
With the launch of the $50,000 “I Love the Grapevine” fund drive, faithful readers can affirm support for their beloved Grapevine. In addition, the fund drive seeks to enlist support from new denominational readers who will come to love the Grapevine. New readers who are introduced to the Grapevine, often say: “The Grapevine is a hidden treasure in the denomination.”

Fox, the visionary founder and first publisher/editor started the Newsletter with 100 Disciples retirees. After 10 years, Fox passed the mantle of leadership to Oscar Haynes in January 2001. Haynes helped grow the ministry in terms of staff, content, format, and circulation. After Haynes’ retirement in February 2013, Rev. Dr. John R. Foulkes became the publisher/executive editor. John continues the legacy of Grapevine excellence, and has increased circulation to 700 plus.
The OTG, published three times a year, is free of charge and fully supported by free will donations from readers. If you are interested in receiving the 30th Anniversary Special Edition of the newsletter, as well as subsequent issues contact John at [email protected]
