A Chalice Press author gaining national recognition for sharing her story of forgiving the white supremacist who murdered her mother and two cousins will be profiled on NBC’s Today on Good Friday.
Sharon Risher’s book, For Such a Time as This: Hope and Forgiveness after the Charleston Massacre, will be available from Chalice Press in May. Risher has been featured on several news shows and magazines and is a regular speaker affiliated with Everytown Survivor Network and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
Risher was interviewed this month by Today host Craig Melvin about the tragedy at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, her childhood church and the site where nine people were killed following a Bible study in June 2015. Her book details the long road to forgiveness and how a chaplain at a Dallas hospital became a national figure in the anti-gun-violence movement.
The interview is currently scheduled for the show’s third hour. Watched by more than 4 millions viewers each morning, Today says the segment will kick off a weekly series through the summer highlighting stories on “faith in humanity and in the community.”
