Dedicated Disciple Elder Emeritus Eliza H. Cave

The OGMP is pleased to recognize and honor Elder Emeritus Eliza H. Cave as a Dedicated Disciple.

Eliza Cave grew up in the Christian Church in South Carolina. As a child, her father took her to a General Assembly while it was still a segregated event. After moving to Aiken, South Carolina, she found there was no African American Christian Church. She began attending the segregated First Christian Church there. In the 1970s, she helped integrate the congregation and has remained an active member ever since. Recently, she celebrated her 100th birthday in May. Over the years, she has served as Board Chair, Elder, and in leadership roles at every level of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

She has served on the General Board, the Church Finance Council, and Christmount. She was involved with Disciples Women, volunteered to help organize Quadrennial, traveled with the church to Haiti, and served as Director of the Church Camp program in Hampton, South Carolina, for approximately 20 years.

Outside of her church work, she is a retired educator in the Aiken County Public Schools. She has also been involved in many community organizations, including the South Carolina State University Alumni Chapter of Aiken-Augusta (Class of 1951) and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
