“For more than two decades, Chalice Hymnal and Chalice Praise have served congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and other congregations beyond Disciples who appreciate their inclusive theology and international flavor,” says Brad Lyons, Chalice Press president and publisher.
“It will likely be a few more years before we reprint these titles, if we reach that point at all,” Lyons noted, “so congregations are encouraged to order now so they can continue using these resources for years to come.”
The printer has not yet been selected, but printing will likely occur in the United States, shortening the delivery time many publishers have experienced over the last year due to supply-chain challenges. Even so, hymnals are printed on special special-order paper that is increasingly hard to get, requiring the shortened guaranteed-fulfillment timeline.
Additional worship resources may also be printed depending on potential customer interest. Complete a quick survey to express interest in a printing of Chalice Worship, spiral-bound large print Chalice Hymnal and Chalice Praise, and other worship resources.
Chalice Hymnal was created as a joint project of CBP and what is now Disciples Home Missions. For several years, CBP and DHM have explored the possibilities of a new hymnal with many different possibilities and potential partners on the table. However, no direction has yet been identified on how a future hymnal might be created and produced.
Digital versions of Chalice Hymnal and Chalice Praise will not be available.
“Because Chalice Hymnal was produced before digital rights were commonly acquired, we do not have the permissions needed to produce a digital version,” Lyons says. “We explored the possibility a few years ago, and it is not economically feasible to go back and acquire those rights now, a quarter-century later. A digital version would certainly be a key ingredient in future hymnal conversations.”

Can you tell me if the new hymnal will be on the CCCL or One Lic lists?
Will it be revised and updated, or just reprinted?

I would absolutely love a copy of this. Prefer the red, but would be happy with the blue. There are even people I know who were published in this book. I am not where a Disciples church is anywhere near me, so I feel that having a copy would soothe my heart.

Will the accompanyist’s version also be available?
